James Stokoe

James is one of three founding Directors of Doyle Law, along with Mark and Catherine Doyle.

James specialises in shipping litigation and dispute resolution. During his career he has acted for a large number of shipowners, insurers, charterers, oil majors, ship managers, and pool operators.

James regularly handles disputes and advises clients on issues arising under charterparties, contracts of affreightment, bills of lading, pool agreements, ship management agreements, and shipbuilding contracts.

James has acted in hundreds of arbitrations covering a wide range of maritime disputes, including cargo claims, casualties, off-spec bunker claims, speed and performance claims, and laytime and demurrage claims.

James has advised in relation to claims involving various different types of cargo including clean and dirty petroleum products, chemicals, minerals, coal, rice, soyabeans, grains, sugar, fertiliser, and steel products.

He has a particular interest in disputes relating to the operation of tankers and has worked for a large number of tanker owners and charterers throughout his career.

James acts for clients in both English High Court and arbitration proceedings (including under LMAA, LCIA, ICC rules).

Before qualifying as a solicitor, James spent four years working in the Claims Department of an International Group P&I Club.
